The story of 'Anjaan' began in 1950 with the birth of S.D. Sahota, a naturally talented artist, in Punjab, India. After completing high school, he pursued Fine Arts at Mehr Chand Polytechnic College in Jalandhar, Punjab, and graduated as the state topper in 1972. He painted under the pseudonym 'Anjaan', reflecting the philosophical idea that art is so vast that no artist, regardless of skill or experience, can claim complete mastery.

S.D. Sahota's impressive body of work captures a collective memory, visually representing a wide range of scenic, cultural, literary, and philosophical references. By blending art and literature, painting and sculpture, Sahota explores the complex events of nature and the realistic depiction of life. His extensive collection of imagery is matched only by the variety of media evident in his work.

Sahota's oeuvre includes paintings, sculptures, and various works on paper, canvas, and hardboard. He has created numerous artworks using different color media, such as oil colors, oil pastels, poster colors, and watercolors. Now retired, Sahota spends his time designing houses, combining his architectural and artistic skills. He has inspired many budding artists within his family.

The legacy of ‘Anjaan’ flourishes with S.D. Sahota's son, Akshay Sahota, who inherited his father's artistic talents. In a delightful twist, Akshay is a research scientist in electronics engineering. Hailing from Punjab, India, he earned his doctorate in the United States and now resides in Rochester, MN with his wife.

Akshay’s art reflects a fascination with exploring captivating places and cultures. By blending elements of reality with surrealism through both paint and photography, he broadens the horizons of ‘Anjaan’. His rhythmic compositions capture the varying moods of Mother Nature, infused with elements of surprise.
